2001 Mardi Gras Pictures

Eunice Mardi Gras, February 27, 2001

The Eunice Courir is pictured about 10:30 a.m. going through Patasa east of Eunice. As has been the case in recent years, the courir was the largest in Southwest Louisiana, numbering well over 1,000 riders, including a large contingent of riders on horseback and many trailers. A number walked most of the route, some 16 or 17 miles.

The courir had three band wagons. During the afternoon, the courir was drenched by a heavy shower.

Capitaine Nelson Godeaux is shown at the head of the courir, which stretched behind him for a mile or more.

Meanwhile, in downtown Eunice, bands performed all day, and there was plenty to eat. Pictured below in this column is Brad Randell, leader of the Zydeco Ballers, and in the right column is Steve Riley, leader of the Mamou Playboys, the group that played during the latter part of the afternoon while the courir rode through town from about 3 p.m. until well after 4.
